Who I AM

I am a designer, educator, and researcher working across graphic design, human–computer interaction, and inclusive education. I am completing a dual MFA in Graphic Design and an MS in Human-Computer Interaction at Iowa State University, while teaching undergraduate design courses that emphasize process, experimentation, and human-centered thinking.

My creative practice examines how visual form shapes perception. I work across digital processes, photography, collage, and mixed media to explore how images are read and how materials influence meaning. Much of my work begins through making—sketching, layering, building, and testing ideas in physical and digital space to understand how color, texture, structure, and sequencing guide attention and emotion.

My research focuses on how illustrated narratives affect interpretation, particularly in early childhood settings. This has deepened my interest in how subtle shifts in form and composition shape audience response, and how design communicates tone and intent. Iteration is central to my process; I often develop multiple versions of an idea before understanding what the work needs to say.

I am drawn to materials and methods that change how a viewer experiences an object or scene. Working with unconventional forms and tactile, plant-based, or temporary materials allows me to test how the medium shapes the message. These explorations frame design as both craft and communication, and directly inform how I teach image-making, visual storytelling, and digital media.

My practice and teaching are closely connected. The methods I use in the studio become tools for students to think, experiment, and reflect. I want them to understand that design grows through making, and that every choice carries meaning.
